MIT’s Aid Policy in One Sentence
MIT describes itself as need-blind, need-based and full-need for all students, international and domestic.
- Need-blind: your ability to pay does not affect your admission decision.
- Need-based: aid depends on your family’s finances.
- Full need: MIT meets 100% of demonstrated need.
What Families Pay
MIT announced that, from the 2025–26 academic year, families with typical assets earning under US$200,000 a year pay no tuition, and families earning under US$100,000 pay nothing for tuition, housing, dining or fees. For many families outside the US, this means MIT can be free or very low cost.
No Merit Scholarships
MIT does not award merit, athletic or talent scholarships. All undergraduate aid is based on need. Outside scholarships you win yourself can reduce your student contribution.

Graduate Students
