Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
One of the largest scholarship programmes for young Africans. It funds academically talented students with financial need, and a commitment to giving back, at partner universities in Africa and abroad, including in Canada, the UK and the USA. Support usually includes tuition, accommodation, living costs and leadership development. Each partner university runs its own application and deadline.

University Scholarships for African Students
Many universities offer scholarships for students from Africa or from low-income countries, often through their international office. In Canada, for example, U of T and UBC are Mastercard Foundation partners and also run major international scholarships. See Canadian scholarships.

How to Apply Successfully
- Start 12 months ahead and track deadlines in a spreadsheet.
- Get transcripts, certificates and passports ready early.
- Show leadership and how you will give back to your community.
- Prepare English test results if required, or check whether English-medium study is accepted.
- Apply to several programmes in different countries.
