The Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship is a US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefit that helps veterans, service members and Fry Scholars who are running out of GI Bill benefits complete degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Last checked: October 2026. Confirm details on VA.gov.
What It Provides
Up to 9 additional months of benefits or $30,000, whichever comes first. Monthly payments match your Post-9/11 GI Bill or Fry Scholarship rate.
Who Is Eligible?
You must be using the Post-9/11 GI Bill or the Fry Scholarship, have 6 months or less of benefits remaining, and meet one of these:
- Enrolled in an undergraduate STEM degree and completed at least 60 semester hours (or equivalent) of a 120-hour programme.
- Already have a STEM degree and are enrolled in a covered clinical training programme for health care professionals.
- Already have a STEM degree and are working toward a teaching certification.
Graduate degree programmes are not covered. Approval is not guaranteed; priority goes to those at the 100% benefit level and those needing the most credit hours.
How to Apply
- Check your remaining GI Bill entitlement.
- Apply online on VA.gov (it takes about 15 minutes).
- VA usually decides within about 30 days.
- If approved, give your Certificate of Eligibility to your school’s VA certifying official.
Tips
- Apply as soon as you get close to the 6-month mark, so there is no gap in funding.
- Ask your school’s veterans office to confirm your degree is on the approved STEM list.
