Purdue University in Indiana is known for engineering, technology and science, and attracts many international students. However, its best-known merit scholarships are only open to domestic students, so international applicants need to plan carefully.

Presidential and Trustees Scholarships: Domestic Only
Purdue’s main first-year merit awards, the Presidential Scholarship ($10,000 a year for non-residents) and the Trustees Scholarship ($16,000 a year for non-residents), are open only to domestic students: US citizens, nationals, permanent residents and certain other lawfully present individuals. Students on F or J visas are not eligible.
Options for International Undergraduates
- Some colleges and departments within Purdue offer awards open to international students after the first year.

- Look for outside scholarships from your home country and international foundations.
Graduate Students
Graduate funding is much more widely available. Many international master’s and especially PhD students at Purdue are supported through research or teaching assistantships, which usually include a tuition waiver and a stipend. Contact your department and potential advisers directly.
